The Future of Battery Technology

There has been a slow progress in the field of battery technology. However much we have seen the introduction of fast charging batteries, still, there is more to tap in this space. The future of battery technology is slowly taking shape with idea of supercapacitor and graphene batteries being enhanced by researchers.

Perhaps graphene supercapacitor batteries, as we would see it later would bring to fore batteries that would be long lasting. In smartphones, we have seen batteries that can charge fast but still to witness the ones that can last for up to a week or so.

Supercapacitor batteries

The future is all about efficiency. Have you imagined charging your laptop in just 10 minutes? Capacitor batteries also known as ultracapacitor batteries comes to deliver the promise. Unlike the chemical batteries, there is no chemical reaction that takes place and thus are more friendly to the environment, and does not degrade with time. That is one of the advantages that you will find with capacitor batteries, the battery of the future.

One of the challenges currently faced by scientists and researchers is the fact that supercapacitors store less power as compared to chemical batteries, in the same space. In addition, they also lose power so fast and that ushers in the idea of graphene batteries.

Graphene batteries

Due to the weakness portrayed by supercapacitor batteries, graphene comes to shape the future of supercapacitors and scientists are investing heavily on this space. Graphene since it was discovered in 2004, it has remained to be a wonder material. Being a good conductor of electricity and heat, plus its light nature, there is so much potential for this wonder material to enhance the power of supercapacitors in shaping the future of battery technology.

Graphene battery vs lithium-ion battery

Graphene batteries would bring more conductivity than lithium-ion batteries. This enhances the charging as it would charge faster and also delivers more power. The other difference that exist is the potential to remain cool since they conduct heat away faster than Lithium batteries. That translates to a longer lifespan.

Graphene batteries are also environment friendly since they do not degrade. As mentioned earlier, in graphene supercapacitors, there is no reaction and that means no substance is released to the environment.

What is expected of the future with battery technology?

There is so much anticipation and development in this field of technology. Future batteries are expected to be more powerful, to last longer, and to be lighter in weight as compared to the current models. That is what every company is fighting for.

More durable batteries

The developments in place seeks to replace the batteries that do not last with the durable models. We have already witnessed great improvements, from the Lead-Acid types that needs high maintenance, to the maintenance-free types, and more. So, we expect future batteries to last for long.

More powerful and lightweight

We are moving away from the bulky batteries that produce less power. The future seeks to replace those batteries with more powerful ones yet with lighter weight. Of course, this has already been achieved but more improvements are still in place.
